    South King County SHRM Chapter Book Club

    Do you want to engage with others AND earn SHRM recertification credits? Join our newly-established Book Club! 


    • Club reads one book per quarter

    • Club meets virtually 1x per month

      • Members will be asked to read chapters prior to meeting
      • Discussion topics/questions will be emailed to participants about one week prior to meeting
    • Each member is responsible for:
      • Obtaining their own book
      • Writing and submitting their own essay through the SHRM e-Learning portal. Essays are about 500 words and answer the question: “What lessons have you learned by reading this book and how will you apply them in your work?”  Essays are evaluated for length and relevance to the question. There is no evaluation of punctuation or other technical aspects of your writing.
    • Three SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs) are awarded for each book.  There currently is no limit to how many PDCs can be earned through this program. More than 100 books on a range of HR, management, and business topics are currently approved for credit.

        Join us for an interactive virtual workshop as we learn about the ever-evolving landscape of the workplace, the challenge of retaining top talent. As employees actively explore new opportunities within and beyond our organizations, business leaders find themselves in a perpetual cycle of recruitment. "Why Wait Until It’s Too Late?" is an immersive workshop designed to help HR equip leaders with proactive measures to motivate and retain their valuable team members. 

        This 60-minute interactive virtual workshop introduces five strategies you can implement to foster engagement and loyalty. Central to this strategy is the concept of "stay interviews" – personalized one-on-one meetings between leaders and both tenured and newly hired employees. These interviews serve as a catalyst for improving engagement and enhancing retention rates. 

        Join us in this engaging virtual workshop where you will grasp the concept of stay interviews and gain actionable insights into creating a workplace environment that motivates and retains top talent. 


        Learning objectives:

        • Identify five essential steps to effectively motivate and retain your top-performing team members.  
        • Define stay interviews, understanding the skills and traits required to conduct them successfully.  
        • Acquire hands-on practice to help leaders prepare for, conduct, and follow up on stay interviews.  
        • Discover how fostering a culture of open communication can inspire active engagement and contribute to increased retention and better results. 
        This workshop is interactive with discussions, small breakouts, and application practice. Participants will take away a participant guide with key strategies, as well as a list of additional resources.
