CAROL BOWSER

Conflict Management Strategies, Inc.

We live in polarizing times and the topics on the horizon in 2020 will no doubt have sparks fly.  Organizations strive to address issues of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.  Yet, bringing together diverse populations means an increased likelihood of polarizing conversations.  There has to be a better approach than “let’s agree to disagree” or “just don’t talk about politics at work” or “just don’t engage at all.”

This presentation provides tips, tools, and strategies to assist the HR Professional who has to deal with the aftermath of polarizing conversations as well as coach managers and employees how to respond to statements designed to antagonize.

As a result of this presentation participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe 4 purposes of Conversation
  • Articulate universal themes of polarizing conversations

  • Incorporate a simple structure to move from polarizing statements to more productive dialogue
  • Apply simple language to deescalate polarizing conversations
